Get out your neon scrunchies, oversize flannel and stonewashed jeans, 'cause we're headed back to the '90s with this week's movie releases. "Titanic" hits the big screen again—this time in 3-D—while the "American Pie" franchise comes full circle with "American Reunion." And while "American Reunion" is technically brand new, "Titanic" is the same movie we've always loved.
The re-release brings back one of our favorite on-screen romances between Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio). You know the story: First-class Rose has an overbearing mother who wants her to marry the tall, dark and handsome Cal Hockley (Billy Zane) for his money. Jack is a starving artist who wins two tickets on a ship back to America. The two meet when Rose looks to jump off the ship in an attempt to escape from her life, and Jack talks her back over the railing. The rest, as they say, is history—albeit, a tragic one. What you may not know are these five "Titanic" facts we dredged up in a deep dive of the internet.
1. "Lie on that bed, uh, I mean couch."
Guess what? That wasn't in "Titanic"'s script. In the famous scene where Rose lies naked on the couch so Jack can draw her, Leo accidentally messed up the line. James liked it so much, however, that he kept it in the film. We're glad he did because it just makes 22-year-old Leo that much more endearing.
2. Studio heads wanted Matthew McConaughey for Jack
The studios pushed for Matthew, but James Cameron put his foot down and won them all over to Leo's favor. And praise be to the '90s gods, because we can't imagine "Titanic" without him! While he was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" it was his starring role in the history-based film that won everyone over and launched his epic career.
3. One expensive sketch
You may have heard that James was actually the one to sketch Kate while she's lying naked on the, uh, couch, but did you know it sold for a whopping $16,000? ABC News reported last year that the portrait sold to the highest bidder. Hey, if you have the money, why not? Although, we wonder how Kate feels with a nude picture of her possibly on display in someone's living room. On second though, it just seems kind of creepy.
4. The water tank isn't for peeing?
Kate and Leo admitted on several occasions that they peed in the water tank. On "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," the host said to Kate, "I'm thinking, 'I wonder if they went pee pee in the water tank, or if they got out?'" To which Kate replied, "We did, we did." James Cameron also told People magazine that the cast was allowed many bathroom breaks, but he doesn't doubt for a second they were probably peeing in the water. Here we are crying over Jack's death and Leo is peeing. Kind of ruins the moment, dude.
5. Scene change in the 3-D version
James only changed one thing in the 3-D version: the stars. Like, the ones in the sky. James received a "snarky" email from Neil deGrasse Tyson, one of America's leading astronomers, who told him the alignment of the stars was wrong in the scene where Rose is lying on the wooden board staring up at the sky. James had his own choice words about the email, Contact Music reports, but ended up changing the scene in the end. We will probably be too bleary-eyed to even notice. We'll never let go, Jack!
